Parasol

July 1, 2022.

Parasol is a pony first released during the first generation of My Little Pony toys. She's a pink earth pony that first appeared during year 2 of Generation 1.
Parasol was introduced in a set of "rainbow ponies--" a set of ponies named after their multicolored hair, which is pink, yellow, green, and blue.
She has been released multiple times. After her original release, she reappeared in a 25th anniversary collector's set with two other rainbow ponies. In 2018, she was put on sale as a solo pony for My Little Pony's 35th anniversary.

I have got an original 1983 release Parasol and a 2018 (her foot is stamped with 2017) release Parasol, which was recently found and purchased at a thrift store.

On the left, neo-Parasol, and on the right, original Parasol.

An astute observer might notice that they are not quite the same color. Their difference in color is much more pronounced in photographs than it is in real life, but New Parasol definitely has a fleshier color.
There are a few other minor differences between the two: Old Parasol has a deeper eye crease and smile, a larger eye, and the two have slightly different eyelash shapes. Old Parasol's cheeks are more deeply flushed. New Parasol's head isn't fixed in place like G1 ponies' are.

Written on the underside of her front hooves, Old Parasol has "'83 Hasbro Pat Pending," and "Hong Kong."
New Parasol's foot is stamped with the following: The year of release, "Hasbro," "My Little Pony," and "Made in China." Her last foot is marked with "THE BRIDGE DIRECT."

New Parasol also has more vibrant hair, comparatively, but this could be chalked up to Old Parasol's hair fading over time. Her forelock is also much more pronounced, sticking out excitedly.
There are also some short hairs sticking out at the base of the tail, but this could be due to damage, or unintentional on the part of the manufacturer.

Both ponies have faded cutie marks, but it seems the damage manifests differently.

Though they have minor differences, both Parasols are undoubtably cute ponies. For a toy that is nearly 40 years old, Old Parasol holds up quite well against her newer counterpart.
Little ponies are very kind, so the two will surely get along well.
